Went to UNC Pembroke for a coaching session with Joanna Hersey, where she is Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium. We worked on "A Fantasia of Eastern European Village Dances" composed by Gary Buttery, a fun and challenging piece that includes a lot of mixed meters. Joanna and Gary have recorded this piece with the Alchemy Tuba-Euphonium Quartet

We had a wonderful time last night playing holiday tunes for "A Dickens Christmas" in Burlington, NC. The crowd was terrific, there were people walking around in character costumes, there was music and food all up and down the streets of downtown and the weather was great. One young man even came up and rapped his pencil on one of our music stands and started "conducting" us. We hope to be invited back.

We just submitted a proposal to do a presentation at the May 30-June 4, 2016 International Tuba Euphonium Conference in Knoxville, Tenn. Wish us luck.

We have begun working on "Wyvernfell" by Ben McMillan, a challenging programmatic piece about a knight confronting a dragon and the battle that ensues. It uses some unusual techniques, including "rather nasty rips and ominous valve runblings."

Our very own Glenn Wilkinson has been invited to join the newly established North Carolina Brass Band. NCBB is a professional brass band directed by Brian Meixner. Congratulations Glenn.

We had a terrific coaching session with Tom McCaslin this afternoon. Tom is currently Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at East Carolina University. He's a phenomenal performer and a great teacher. He brought musical ideas out of us that we didn't even know we had. You can learn more about Tom at

Spent the weekend at another great Miraphone Academy. Kudos to the organizer Dennis AsKew and his merry band of clinicians, Deanna Swoboda and Ben Pierce. As always, it was exhausting yet invigorating. If you are a tuba or euphonium enthusiast, look for it about this time again next year.

We would like to welcome Glenn Wilkinson to the group on euphonium. He replaces John Jones who is fortunate enough to be in so many music groups that he has scheduling conflicts that cannot be resolved.

Got back from the Miraphone Academy at UNC Greensboro just a few hours ago - inspired and exhausted but ready to go. Had excellent coaching and performances from three great tuba-euphonium players - Drs. Dennis AsKew from UNCG, Demondrae Thurman from the U. of Alabama and Ben Pierce from the U. of Arkansas. Can't wait for next year.

Jack, Paul and I got back from the US Army Band Tuba Workshop on Sunday, minds totally blown by all the great music we heard. Enjoyed playing a Hirsbrunner HB-4P and a Miraphone 289 in the exhibit hall.

It was a great weekend for tuba and euphonium music in the Triangle. TTQ had a hugely rewarding coaching session with the Sotto Voce tuba quartet on Saturday. Sunday Sotto Voce performed an awesome and inspiring concert followed by a very informative master class.

In the middle of our busy spring/summer schedule, we just had the joy of attending the Tubas in the Summer workshop at UNCG put on by Dennis Askew.  During the seminar our quartet had several coaching sessions with Demondrae Thurman who was incredibly helpful and fun to work with. What a thrill!  We were also privileged to perform as the featured tuba quartet at the seminar's outdoor concert at Latham park in Greensboro.  Our thanks to Dennis, Demondrae, and all the guest artists and staff that put together this incredible seminar.

We've had a particularly exciting 2005 with several new first time gigs including playing the national anthem at a Durham Bulls baseball game.  You can watch a home video of it here.  We kept busy in the middle of the year working on our first CD, Christmas Ornaments, which we recorded with our good fried, Greg Fishel.  And now we're gearing up for the every busy Christmas season (our favorite).

We look forward to meeting many of you and sharing our music at our various outings this coming season.  And we also hope the season finds you in good spirits and health.

It's that time of year again. Time to get ready for our annual Christmas Tubas bash. Our good friend George Cumpston has retired to Charlotte, and those of us in the Triangle Tuba Quartet have taken up the mantle of George's legacy to organize the Christmas Tubas. Help us make him proud. Please visit our Christmas Tubas page for more info!

All of the pages now have something on them (instead of just being blank) and we've uploaded a few sound bytes so that you can hear what we sound like.  Now that you know a little more about us, we'd like to know a little more about you.  Please feel free to introduce yourself by sending us an email or signing our guest book.  And thanks for visiting!

Thanks for visiting and welcome to our official TTQ website!  You can tell what we've got planned for this site from the many still blank pages.  Please check back periodically to see how it all fills out.  We'd love to hear your suggestions on how this page could be more useful to you.

We've just finished the Christmas season and have enjoyed the many playing opportunities we've had from mid November through early January.  Looking back on 2002, one of the highlights of our year was attending the International Tuba Euphonium Conference (ITEC) that was held in Greensboro, NC (our own backyard).  There the finest tuba and euphonium players from around the world assembled for 5 days of lectures, recitals, concerts, classes, exhibits, and camaraderie.  What a treat!  This was really a once in a lifetime event for us since the last ITEC was in Finland and the next one (2004) will be in Budapest.

Of course, what we enjoyed the most as a group was bringing our special tuba-euphonium blend of music to the many appreciative audiences we had this year.  Thank you all for your kind words, support and enjoyment of our music.  We hope you have a wonderful new year!
